A truly inspiring art sale is coming to the Ocean Park Hall this Saturday, October 31 and November 1st from 10 – 5 pm. The Zimbabwe Gecko Society African Craft Show & Sale is an annual event created by local residents Susan and Frank Janetti that raises funds for projects in Zimbabwe. As stated on their website “The Zimbabwe Gecko Society’s goal is to create long-term, sustainable Community Health in Zimbabwe. To do this, we support already existing programs that are struggling to keep going in an economically depressed country. Sustainable projects are the only way for communities to provide long-term solutions for the extreme poverty experienced by many. These projects establish self-sufficiency of both individuals and the communities they live in. The goal is to create permanent change, breaking the cycle of poverty by giving those most in need the skills and resources they would otherwise never have access to.” The monies raised from this art sale will allow the Janetti’s to continue their hard work in Zimbabwe. To learn more about the The Zimbabwe Gecko Society visit their website. Or, plan to attend the art sale this Saturday!

Another successful community event was put on by the Ocean Park Community Association this past Saturday, October 24th. Over 300 children trick-or-treated at over 25 fabulous local businesses around Ocean Park Village. Post-parade the children enjoyed a halloween movie and popcorn and a photo booth sponsored by Schill Insurance. Thanks to everyone for making this great event happen.
A BIG thank you to the following Ocean Park businesses for participating in our Annual Halloween Haunt in Ocean Park Village today. The weather is perfect and the kids are so excited (as well as our parade mascot)! This list will also provide participants with an idea of the parade route. We begin at Schill Insuance and finish at Ethical Addiction Apparel and then head back to the Ocean Park Hall. But, no worries – the mascot will lead you in the right direction. See you in a few hours!
One of our local residents snapped these beautiful pictures of the new baby owls and Mama in Kwomais Park. The owls have been a tourist attraction since they arrive in the summer. Their sounds can be heard echoing through the neighbourhood surrounding the park.
Take a look!
There was a flurry of activity in regards to the development of three lots in Ocean Park and the removal of over 75 trees on the site. Frustrated residents are calling for an amendment to the tree bylaw for Ocean Park in order to protect existing old-growth trees in anticipation of new development in the area. If you would like to be put in touch with the newly constructed tree committee please email us.
Ocean Park Community Association Board Member, Nicole Nelson, attended the Meet Your Local Police event held at the Ocean Park library on Tuesday, October 20th and received the following information on how to keep safe in the community:
