For anyone who missed the Emergency Preparedness Fair on May 7th here’s a small piece from the Peace Arch News – http://www.peacearchnews.com/community/380297891.html
You can find the Ocean Park Emergency Response Plan here.
Do you have Ocean Park history to share?
The City of Surrey has hired a professional author of history books to write a book about Surrey History from the early days to this century. The book will come out in 2017 to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Confederation. Writing is underway now.
The Archives is asking for photos, maps, documents, and more for the book, the older the better.
The Archives accepts donations of original old postcards, photos, tickets, events, deeds, and documents for their permanent collection.
Attached is an ad from the Peace Arch News about drop-in-sessions around Surrey, or if you have something that might be useful, send an email to Ryan Gallagher at Rgallagher@surrey.ca

Didn’t get a chance to attend the Ocean Park Community Association’s Annual Heritage Tea on Friday, May 6th? Perhaps you weren’t able to get to our Emergency Preparedness Fair on Saturday, May 7th either. You can check out the photos here in our event gallery and get all caught up!
The Ocean Park Community Association would like to thank all of the organizations that participated in their First Emergency Preparedness Event this past Saturday.
Safety representatives (many who are volunteers) came out to provide the community information and resources to help GET PREPARED! From BC Hydro, Primary Care First Aid, City of Surrey Neighbourhood Emergency Preparedness Program, Forager Foundation, 72hours.ca, Surrey Search and Rescue and our local Firefighters for dropping by too – Thank You for taking the time to help our community. smile emoticon
Our bulk kit orders are now complete and surpassed our target by 200%, and because of this, hundreds of local families are now better prepared for an emergency situation in Ocean Park.
The Ocean Park Community Association also just published the Ocean Park Earthquake Response Plan. Take a read of it, and if you would like to get involved please email us at email@example.com
Finally, THANK YOU to our über fantastic board member Clarence Giesbrecht for taking the lead on this project and your fabulous sub-committee of volunteers in the community. You have done good for Ocean Park and South Surrey in general.
The Ocean Park Community Association and sub-committee of volunteers is pleased to release the Emergency Response Plan. It was only through extensive research, community collaborations and meetings with safety representatives this document was made possible. Click here to review the document.
This Saturday, May 7th between 10:30 am and 2:30 pm make sure to pop by the Ocean Park Hall (1577 128th Street) for the Emergency Preparedness Fair!
The Ocean Park Community Association and a sub-committee of volunteers, have been working really hard this past year to bring together an Ocean Park Emergency Response Plan, the bulk order of 72 Hour Emergency Kits (which recently just passed $12,000 in orders – our target was $8000) and the Emergency Preparedness Fair – with safety representatives from BC Hydro, The City of Surrey Neighbourhood Emergency Preparedness Program, Forager Foundation, Primary Care First Aid and 72hours.ca , Surrey Search and Rescue and more to come!
Enjoy fresh popcorn courtesy of our good friends at Schill Insurance, activities for the kids, and an opportunity to ask questions, gather resources and GET PREPARED.
Bonus enter the raffle draw courtesy of Homelife Benchmark Realty Corp. White Rock for a two person 72 Hour Emergency Kit!
The more we are prepared in our own homes, the better equipped we will be to help each other if disaster strikes. We hope to see you there!
PS: Anyone who ordered a kit on/before April 24, the kit will be available for pick-up at the Hall on May 7.
