Ocean Park Youth Team

Are you an Ocean Park youth, or the parent of an Ocean Park youth?

The Ocean Park Community Association has just launched the Youth Team to provide Ocean Parkers ages 12 – 18 with meaningful volunteer opportunities within the community. Volunteer categories range from nature-related activities, events, business and community engagement.

The Youth Team will be guided by OPCA board members and adult volunteers, and only notified of volunteer opportunities by email that would interest them. They will be provided with official t-shirts to wear during their volunteer times, in order to be identified and raise awareness of the OPCA.

The hours will be logged by our Youth Team volunteer, and an official certificate will be produced at the end of their time with us! These hours will contribute to their required volunteer hours for graduation, and provide real-life skills.

To sign up yourself, or your youth click here.

PS: Your family must be OPCA Community Connect members to apply. To sign up go here:

Breaking Down Language Barriers

The Ocean Park Community Association is pleased to announce the Ocean Park Village website now offers Chinese language translation on select pages throughout the site. Simply toggle from English to Chinese by clicking on the flag icon in the top left corner of the website. The Association would like to thank our volunteers, particularly Adele and Alina, from Chinese Village Club for helping to facilitate the translation. It is our common goal to grow community and connect people and by breaking down language barriers we are moving closer to reaching our collective goals. To learn more about the great work of the Chinese Village Club visit their website here.

The City of Surrey is Looking for History

Do you have Ocean Park history to share?

The City of Surrey has hired a professional author of history books to write a book about Surrey History from the early days to this century. The book will come out in 2017 to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Confederation. Writing is underway now.

The Archives is asking for photos, maps, documents, and more for the book, the older the better.

The Archives accepts donations of original old postcards, photos, tickets, events, deeds, and documents for their permanent collection.

Attached is an ad from the Peace Arch News about drop-in-sessions around Surrey, or if you have something that might be useful, send an email to Ryan Gallagher at Rgallagher@surrey.ca

To look at the Surrey Archives online, go to http://www.surrey.ca/culture-recreation/4836.aspx
