Amazing Race in Ocean Park Village
Every year on Family Day, (the second Monday of February) the Ocean Park Community Association along with Physiomoves hosts the “Amazing Race in Ocean Park Village“. This fun, family event has become the signature event of the Village and one that is looked forward to every year. The event involves families racing around the Village and successfully completing challenges in order to make it back to the Ocean Park Hall in first place. Participants are provided the race challenge cards at the beginning at race registration. Some of the challenge are self-led, others are hosted by business owners or neighbours. Post-race, participants gather at the Ocean Park Hall, receive their awards and celebrate each others victories. Take a look at last year’s winning participants in our event gallery.
What are some of the challenges? They’ve ranged from “Doing the hokey-pokey” at Safeway, to setting up a tent, taking selfies at viewpoints, finding obscure locations and figuring out what time the bus will arrive.
The cost: This event is $25 per family, however Community Connect members receive a 15% discount.
Can I bring a stroller? Yes
Are my kids too small to participate? It depends on if you’re wanting to win the race, or just have fun. Also, a stroller is permitted so this may help with tired children.
How long is it? The first family is usually back within a half hour – panting.
Can I drop out? Yes, of course – the intent of this race is simply to have fun, with your family.
What makes a family? A family must consist of no less than two participants – it doesn’t matter who you’re family is made up of!
Is there food? Light snacks will be sold after the event
What are the awards? Although the awards change every year typically they look something like this. First place receives a take-home trophy, their name listed on the large trophy stationed at the Ocean Park Village Pub & Restaurant and an annual family pass to Science World. Second Place receives a gift certificate for a fun family event (bowling, circus school etc.) to the value of $150, and third place receives a gift valued at around $50.
