Ocean Park Community Association Heritage Podcasts
This podcast series invites you to hear more of these memories — personal stories that bring Ocean Park’s history to life through the voices of those who lived it. This project was initiated by past OPCA Board Member Jill Lindsay and Past President, current Treasurer Jane Hayes, whose dedication has helped preserve and share these important pieces of our community’s story.
Podcast 1: Meet the Podcasters

This photo captures three lifelong friends — Pete Allanson, Ed Fader, and Don Welch — who have called Ocean Park home since the mid-1940s. Growing up together, they attended the same elementary schools, rode the school bus side by side, and later went on to the original Semiahmoo High School. Much of their time was spent at the Ocean Park Community Hall, taking part in sports, events, and the everyday rhythm of village life.
Their stories reflect a childhood shaped by the outdoors — days spent hunting, crabbing, and fishing along the shoreline, and racing homemade soapbox cars from the end of Horner Road (15A), along the bluff, and down toward the railroad trestle. Like many who grew up here, their days often began and ended at the beach, returning home only when it was time for chores.
